Another Dallas sports icon will be immortalized with his own statue.
On Monday night, the Dallas Stars announced that they will unveil a statue of Hall of Famer Mike Modano at American Airlines Center. An unveiling ceremony will take place March 16, 2024 on PNC Plaza before the Stars face the Los Angeles Kings.
The team made the announcement in front of spectators during Monday night’s Stars-Rangers matchup.
“What Mike did for our franchise, the city of Dallas and the state of Texas will never be forgotten,” Stars President and CEO Brad Alberts said in a statement. “With his number hanging in the rafters, we’re now thrilled to honor and celebrate the indelible impact he made in an everlasting way.”
According to the Stars, Modano’s statue was sculpted by Sean Bell and international artist Omri Amrany at the Fine Art Studio of Rotblatt Amrany. Omri Amrany was also the sculptor of Dirk Nowitzki’s statue, which also resides on PNC Plaza.
Modano played a pivotal role in Dallas’ 1999 Stanley Cup victory, leading the Stars with seven points in the championship final series. He’s the franchise’s all-time leader in points (1,359), goals (557), assists (802) and games played (1,459), among others.
Modano was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2014.
