Whole Foods will open a new location on Madison’s west side on Dec. 13.
The grocery chain’s new space will be part of the Madison Yards development, which is under construction behind Hilldale Shopping Center at the site of a former Division of Motor Vehicles building in the University Hill Farms neighborhood.
The new Whole Foods, at 4710 Madison Yards Way, is scheduled to open to the public at 9 a.m. on Dec. 13. The company is moving to the new space from its existing store on University Avenue, which opened in 1996.
The new store will be 50,000 square feet and will include organic produce from local farms as well as goods from local providers such as Sassy Cow Creamery, Rushing Waters Fisheries, New Glarus Brewing and Hook’s Cheese Co., according to Whole Foods.
The store will also feature a full-service meat counter with smoked sausages made in house; fresh sushi from Kikka; a full-service coffee bar; and a bakery department with items from La Fournette, La Campagne Bakery and Bunky’s Cafe.
The company said it will offer the first 300 shoppers on opening day a Whole Foods Market limited-edition tote bag and a Secret Saver coupon featuring offers of up to $100 off.
The grand opening event also will include live music and complimentary coffee.
Whole Foods said it will donate a refrigerated van to Madison’s River Food Pantry as part of its Nourishing Our Neighborhoods program, which was created to expand the capacity and capability for community-based food rescue organizations to move food from where it’s available to where it’s needed most.
With 21 acres and millions of dollars of construction costs, Madison Yards is one of the largest developments in the city and has been in various stages of construction since 2021. When completed, the development is expected to bring about 500 residential units to the Hilldale Shopping Center area in addition to about two office buildings, a hotel, community market space and structured parking.
The new Whole Foods is connected to the EO Apartments, which is also part of Madison Yards. Eo Apartments opened on Sept. 28.
