Prince Edward dubbed an unlikely Royal Family fashion icon as tie sells out
Prince Edward has become the latest fashion icon of the Royal Family, choosing to wear a fashion accessory from a leading designer which has caused the product to now completely sell out online.
On his recent trip to South Africa, the prince matched a dark navy suit with a dashing Hermes silk monkey and crocodile tie – a fitting choice for when he visited the beautiful Pretoria National Botanical Garden. One of South Africa’s nine National Botanical Gardens, it is home to a great variety of colourful flora and fauna.
The tie design had repeated images of a blue monkey swinging on a vine with orange flowers, above a crocodile with an open mouth.
The eye-watering £200 tie has become so popular it has now sold out on Hermes’ website.
The Duke of Edinburgh wore the cutely-designed tie when he talked with the South African Minister of Forestry, Fisheries and Environment.
The Royal Family often influences the popularity of brands and the sales of products when pictured wearing selected items.
For instance, Princess Kate is known for her wearing of high-street affordable pieces, whereas Meghan Markle is often spotted in designer gear.
GB News reports The Welsh company, Hiut Denim, once experienced the ‘Meghan effect’ after the Duchess of Sussex wore a pair of jeans on her first official royal visit to Wales, with the co-owner claiming it was “good for business”.
Prince Edward flew to South Africa on a two-day working trip before heading to St Helena for a four-day official visit. St Helena is a subtropical British Overseas Territory which sits in the middle of the South Atlantic Ocean.
Edward is the first member of the Royal Family to visit St Helena since the Princess Royal travelled there 22 years ago in 2002.
Governor Nigel Phillips said: “This promises to be a special occasion, with a public holiday allowing the entire community to join this opportunity to celebrate all that is great about the culture and environment of this remarkable island.”
Prince Edward took a mini absence from public duties after the overseas trip, but is now back to carrying out royal engagements.
The calendar of future royal engagements shows the Duke is set to make a trip to Oxford next week.
The duke and his wife the Duchess of Edinburgh, both 59, are the youngest members of Charles’s slimmed-down working monarchy who are currently carrying out royal duties.
