It comes three months after David Cameron was parachuted in to bolster Rishi Sunak’s Government with his surprise appointment as Foreign Secretary and elevation to the House of Lords.
Shortly before his return to government, Lord Cameron invested £100,000 in his wife’s label, which has also been worn by the Princess of Wales and Holly Willoughby.
Lady Cameron was also present at Tuesday’s event, wearing a £320 polka dot dress from her own label.
Mrs Murty has called on the services of Isabel Spearman, who was adviser to Lady Cameron during her time in Downing Street. She is believed to have helped her to craft a relatable new “first lady” wardrobe, comprising British designers and affordable high-street brands.
The reception was the first backing for London Fashion Week from Downing Street in more than two years. The absence was in stark contrast to the Cameron premiership, when the prime minister’s wife would attend London Fashion Week shows. She also made a point of wearing clothes from the UK’s homegrown talents, including Preen, Christopher Kane and Erdem for official engagements both in the UK and abroad.
